{"id":1317,"date":"2022-09-21T10:26:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T08:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nyheter.ntnu.no\/?p=1317"},"modified":"2023-03-24T15:37:37","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T14:37:37","slug":"new-strategy-will-ensure-open-access-to-new-scientific-articles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyheter.ntnu.no\/en\/new-strategy-will-ensure-open-access-to-new-scientific-articles\/","title":{"rendered":"New strategy will ensure open access to new scientific articles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NTNU is introducing a new Rights Retention Strategy \u2013 RRS which ensures Open Access to all new scientific articles published by NTNU\u2019s researchers \u2013 from day one!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"yui_patched_v3_11_0_1_1663745384594_767\"><em>By: University Library<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new Rights Retention Strategy takes effect on 1 October 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new scheme will ensure that new scientific articles that end up behind a paywall can immediately be made openly available<br>by NTNU\u2019s researchers when they self-archive the latest version of the Author Accepted Manuscript in the NTNU Open repository.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A similar scheme has also been introduced at UiT \u2013 The Arctic University of Norway as well as several institutions in Europe and the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All knowledge available<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/khrono.no\/ny-strategi-gir-forskerne-storre-muskler-overfor-forlagene\/707315\">Khrono<\/a>&nbsp;on 14 August 2022 (in Norwegian), Pro-Rector for Research Tor Grande (photo on top) says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 For NTNU, it is an important principle that all knowledge is made available to everyone. For the individual researchers, this will mean that they reach out to more people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Khrono, NTNU\u2019s Chief Librarian Sigurd Eriksson also says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 With our strategy, researchers can publish wherever they want, and the strategy also enables open access to research that is published in closed journals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Responsibility and rights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the new scheme, open access to an article can be provided without delay and without informing the publisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since NTNU takes on the legal responsibility for the scheme, individual researcher does not need to worry that archiving their work might violate the agreement signed with the publisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers also keep the rights to use and disseminate text and other material they have produced themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will be possible to request an exemption from making individual articles available immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Access<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the scheme, NTNU wants to contribute to the national objective of open access to outputs from publicly funded research by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To achieve the goal, it is important that employees at NTNU, regardless of whether they are corresponding author or co-author, always self-archive their article in NTNU Open as soon as soon as it is published, in accordance with NTNU\u2019s Guidelines for Policy for Open Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntnu.edu\/documents\/139226\/1300699431\/Introduction+of+Rights+Retention+Strategy+at+NTNU+from+16.06.2022.pdf\/4c7d3ab4-439c-aa36-8da2-8757e85e4364?t=1662715961499\">Decicion from the Rectorate at NTNU on 5 June 2022 (PDF)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For NTNU: The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/i.ntnu.no\/wiki\/-\/wiki\/English\/Self-archiving+and+Rights+Retention+Strategy\">wiki \u201cSelf-archiving and Rights Retention Strategy\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NTNU is introducing a new Rights Retention Strategy \u2013 RRS which ensures Open Access to all new scientific articles published by NTNU\u2019s researchers \u2013 from day one!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":36,"featured_media":1318,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[94,93],"tags":[334,335,336],"theme":[],"class_list":["post-1317","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-campus-development","category-organization-news","tag-rrs-2","tag-scientific-articles","tag-university-library"],"acf":{"exclude_from_frontpage":false,"frontpage_image":null,"frontpage_title":"","force_single_display":false,"authors":[1340],"external_authors":null,"contact_persons":null,"external_contact_persons":null,"lang_malform":""},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.5 -
