{"id":5063,"date":"2024-04-04T13:05:19","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T11:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nyheter.ntnu.no\/developing-new-therapies-and-methods-to-treat-diseases\/"},"modified":"2024-04-05T13:53:39","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T11:53:39","slug":"developing-new-therapies-and-methods-to-treat-diseases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyheter.ntnu.no\/en\/developing-new-therapies-and-methods-to-treat-diseases\/","title":{"rendered":"Developing new therapies and methods to treat diseases"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The company has been founded in collaboration with Marigold Innovation, a Danish innovation group that works with the commercialization of ground-breaking basic research in medicine and life sciences.&#13;\n&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>Magnar Bj\u00f8r\u00e5s, an Professor at Norwegian University of Science and Technology who is also a researcher at University of Oslo\/Oslo University Hospital, has been at the forefront of the effort. His research group is working on finding new therapies for rare diseases as well as finding new treatments for viral and bacterial infections.<\/p>\n\n<p>Bj\u00f8r\u00e5s\u2019s research group works with mini organs, tiny replicas of brains, hearts and eyes.  Researchers can test therapies and medicines for many different diseases using these mini organs. The picture on the right is a mini brain seen through a microscope.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basic research as a platform<\/h2>\n\n<p>The researchers rely on basic research to help them to understand and address new and complex issues.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe establishment of Zenit Science is an excellent example of the importance of basic research as a platform to develop a better healthcare system in the future,\u201d says Toril Nagelhus Hernes. Photo: Thomas H\u00f8stad, NTNU<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding the biology behind diseases<\/h2>\n\n<p>Over the past three decades, Bj\u00f8r\u00e5s has built a team and an ecosystem of scientific expertise that rely on different technological platforms to understand the biology behind many diseases. The team has also developed tools that help improve drug development.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cOur focus has always been on using a wide range of technologies to meet complex challenges. The ability to master diversity in research that leads to practical solutions,\u201d Bj\u00f8r\u00e5s says.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A collaborative project and a milestone<\/h2>\n\n<p>\u201cThe formation of Zenit Science is testimony to the collaborative spirit that characterizes Professor Magnar Bj\u00f8r\u00e5s&#8217; research team,\u201d says Peter Horn M\u00f8ller, CEO of Marigold Innovation.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the beginning of a concept in basic research to its development into a viable product, our collaboration constitutes a spectrum of expertise that drives our projects forward,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n<p>NTNU Technology Transfer AS has helped with the establishment of Zenit Science and will continue to be a partner. The Technology Transfer office&#8217;s goal is to promote innovation and commercialization and to contribute to the transformation of scientific discoveries into concrete solutions for the world.<\/p>\n\n<p>Zenit Science is now preparing to commercialize the first research projects from NTNU.&#13;\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to launching 2-3 projects as commissioned research in the coming 12-18 months.
