On September 11th, we host the Innovation Awards Ceremony under the "Let's Talk Innovation" initiative, where we showcased the remarkable talents and contributions of bachelor and master students’ winners and the PhD Innovation Scholarship winner.
A Platform for Innovation
The Innovation Awards Ceremony is not just an event: it is a celebration of creativity, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. The first of its kind at the Faculty of Engineering, we are thrilled to honour the winners of the prestigious competences.
The Innovation Scholarship awards 2023 is a scholarship of 500.000 NOK for a PhD student to continue his/her work in NTNU after the finish of the PhD. The scholarship will cover cost that the student will need to have a viable product in the market by the end of the grant. For the 2023 competition we have received six applications from four Faculty of Engineering departments.
The Innovation Competition for both Bachelor and Master's programs, organised for the first year at the Faculty of Engineering and addressed the last year students. They have submitted an innovation application that had as base their thesis. Some numbers: 16 students, 11 applicants, 7 departments, 2 international collaborations with France and The Nederlands universities and several collaborations with the industry sector.

The Celebration day
The event was open by Vice-dean for Innovation, Alenka Temeljotov-Salaj showing the innovation actions at the Faculty. The Faculty Dean Olav Bolland presented the hands on approach of the innovation strategy and outstanding examples of students innovation.
The event continued with presentations from Astrid Vigtil, Senior Advisor at the faculty presenting the Innovation Scholarship history and the outcomes of the previous winners and Mara Diaconu, PhD Candidate in Sustainable Innovation who presented the evaluation process that she and her colleagues had for all the applications. The final act came from the winners that have presented their ideas in a 5 minute pitch talk.
The room was crowded with professors, researchers, PhDs, postdocs, and innovation enthusiasts interested to hear about the initiative and see the winners. The event was also a platform for networking and future collaboration.
This event is not just about celebrating past achievements; it's about igniting the spark of innovation in all of us. It's a reminder that the pursuit of knowledge and progress is a collective endeavour, and together, we can shape the future.
See you next year!
